OT: Gary Andersen left Wisconsin because of academics -

This is mildly Stanford related, in that Barry Alvarez kind of compares Wisconsin to Stanford (not as directly as Domer fans like to though).Â

Apparently Gary Andersen couldn't handle the fact Wisconsin had some actual academic standards for it's students and didn't like that the admissions department rejected some recruits (and wouldn't let him fill the team with JuCo kids). Kind of embarrassing for OSU that he's basically saying he left Wisconsin for the Beavers because Oregon State will let him take anyone and everyone. Also embarrassing for Andersen that he apparently can't recruit kids who are at all academically inclined.

Agreed, Chimp. The article left me less than impressed with Andersen. He kept stressing that he wanted him and his staff to be able to be honest with the kids he was recruiting. But instead of changing his pitch to admit that he couldn't guarantee admission but stress the value and quality of the education the kid would get, he just tucked tail and ran.Â
He emphasized that he didn't want his comments to reflect poorly on Wisconsin. Don't worry, Gary. They reflect more poorly on you and Oregon State than on Wisconsin!

It's also making me think twice about my older son who is a HS senior and has OSU as one of his top schools (mechanical engineering). Makes me think a place like Gonzaga or Marquette would be a better option.
Don't kite Anderson's academic stance into judgement on actual academic quality - Redrum - 01-22-2015
He's a football coach. The decision for any kid to attend any school should focus on the field of endeavor and its related department's reputation(s), innovation, placement rate and grad rate. Kal football's woeful record with its football grad rates casts light on Kal's senior management and athletic dept. values. Not many dispute that it is a top-flight academic public university. I have no idea how good OSU's mechanical engineering program rates, but its not determined by the academic transcripts of its football recruits.

So Oregon State's new football coach just told the world "I came to Oregon State because they have no academic standards." If I were an Oregon State professor or administration type, I'd be pretty ticked off. . . .
