Andy is, literally, the only game in town.Â
Fortunately, he has a very good game. He's not a cheerleader in rose-colored glasses, and he knows how to read the tea leaves that are always left behind in comments by recruits and their families.Â
I recommend subscribing to Rivals for him alone, to ensure that devoted Stanford fans can continue to get good information on Stanford recruiting. He gets it, and not many recruiting reporters do.  (Brandon Huffman on Scout is good, too, specially on West Coast recruits, but I don't subscribe to Scout anymore. His signal isn't enough to make up for all of the noise there.)

He's basically the only source of Stanford specific recruiting news, right? I mean, some comes from ESPN and a few other reporters via twitter and such, but he's the only one full time covering Stanford with a focus on recruiting. It's nice he shares a decent amount of info publicly, but I find it's well worth the ~$8/month to get all his info and inside stuff. I'm not sure why anyone pays for the Bootleg...

Having been on the Bootleg since almost Day 1 some 16-17 years ago I can't leave. But if you care at all about Stabford FB Andy is the MAN!!

Andy is keeping the NSD blog free, so you can follow it as LOI's come in.

I am really happy to have shifted my $100/year from TOS to Andy/Rivals. He does a great job, and the site is WAY less toxic.
I'm the Switzerland of Stanford football sites - Redrum - 02-04-2015
Or, maybe the 3-nations-in-1 analogy makes me the
Iraq of Stanford football sites. But I'm a football fan only. The rest is mostly just noise to me.
Like Bob K., I've been with the Bootleg forever...like, when they were a Monday faxed football season newsletter. They have one thing: LOTS of posters and enough of them are connected guys who bring the kind of news a staff would if they actually had a fully-functioning staff. And even in the off-season the football board isn't dead.
Cardboard? Was part of the original, Yvonne-led Gang of Five and for unfathomable reasons continue to be its nominal, ad hoc treasurer. We have been delightfully free of (some) Bootleg posters' tendency to self-absorbed, abusive acting-out in print. May it remain ever thus.
I joined Rivals in its original iteration. But it was basically comatose and I eventually dropped it. But Drukarev (ex-Bootleg) has singlehandely turned things around and his energy and results put into recruiting news finally won me back. I'll ride with him and the board for a year to see whether they can sustain or will go into hibernation outside of prime recruiting time.

I was a Bootleg subscriber for many years but just dropped my premium subscription a few months back. I agree 100% with your assessment -- the real value of the site is the message board, both in the number of posters and the fact that several are very connected and/or knowledgeable. But I got frustrated because 1) their recruiting coverage was poor, 2) their frequent website changes were driving me crazy, and 3) threads involving certain posters would inevitably devolve (to be clear, I was bothered by both sides -- those who were constantly negative and those who constantly responded to the negativity without discussing the actual issues). I do miss the volume of posts, though.Â
I was planning to subscribe to Rivals (and still may), but my concern is whether their message board is robust enough. And while I love reading about recruiting, that's not all I care about -- and I don't know what their non-recruiting coverage is like.
I recently started reading the Cardboard. I like that it's free :) and the general congeniality of the board. It's great to see some familiar posters here, and it's great to read posts from Hulk again!
Well, the Cardboard isn't actually "free" - Redrum - 02-04-2015
Think of our funding as a kinder and gentler "Reaping" in Hunger Games. Every
3-4 years we come around and make you all feel really guilty about not sending your children to fight to death to keep us on the internet.Â
Then, when you're vulnerable, we ask for a nominal donation [ $20-$100 has been our historic range] and twice it has worked and we've been good to go. The difference is we don't owe nuttin' to no fancy, high-falutin' national syndicate and we keep Yvonne locked in the basement working virtually for free. That might be changing. So far our biggest cost is web hosting fees, paid bi-annually. That, and me using the Cardboard funds to cover my undisciplined personal Visa overages. EMOTICON
P.S. Oh, and Garvin. Gang of Five, Gang of Nine. Just
numbers, man. No big difference. That's why I'm the Treasurer.

Andy is by far the best source for Stanford recruiting...worth every penny and more.
