By the way, we won 77-64 -
BostonCard - 03-17-2015
I only glanced at the score, because I'm in honduras on a medical mission with limited internet. I didn't even know we were in the nit (though I assumed it) until today. Happy we won... Someone else can fill details.

The official attendance was 1436 per espn box score.

1436 seems about right...it compared to a medium-sized women's volleyball crowd. They actually roped off the upper section seats. Fairly sparse student section, which wasn't too surprising given it is Finals week. My wife insisted on sitting, so we moved up to the loge section at mid- court. For $15 per seat, not horrible. There were quite a few Aggie fans there, and they were spirited. But, as I recalled from an NIT game few years ago, the mini-crowd of Stanford folks was actually almost as noisy (with even the occasional standing O) as the regular crowd, since it was the distilled hard core fans -- i.e., the folks who really wanted to be there rooting for Stanford, despite what happened earlier in the season.

Took a 12-point lead and then gave it away in the first half. Rosco & Nasty were both on the bench with 2 fouls before 10 mins were gone. Davis started to climb back when Randle & Brown were both off the floor for a much-needed rest, but when they came back the matador defense and brain fart offense took over and let Davis back in the game.
Second half came down to the bigs staying on the floor and Brown containing Corey Hawkins who was Davis' one-man wrecking crew (21 in the first half alone). Why Dawkins didn't have Brown on him from the opening tip is beyond me. But with two big men on the floor Davis had no answers inside on either end and we took over. Oh yeah, and Marcus Allen played the best game of his career.
Good win by the more talented team. Rhode Island will be a different challenge. Maybe they will get more than 1,500 to show up. Upper deck was closed off, and lower deck was maybe 2/3 full at best. It was reported on the broadcast that Davis sold twice as many tickets as Stanford.

Did anyone else think that the 30-second shot clock was a big improvement? I felt like the game moved faster and flowed better than under the old rule. For us, there seemed to be less passing the ball around the perimeter and more entry passes or dribble penetration than usual (though maybe that was due to Davis' porous defense). Anyway, I'd be happy to see the 30-second clock become standard next year.

How about a 20 second clock? Now that would be interesting!

No.
I didn't see where it made much of a difference, but it was only a 5-second difference. I actually don't have a problem with 35, but I'm not sure what the "right" number should be. I'm just glad there is one.
30-second shot clock -

I think this favors teams that have a well-conceived, well-executed offense that can consistently generate a decent-percentage shot within 15 seconds, and teams that can just beat you one on one at any time. That does not seem to describe our team at present. I could see some of our opponents employing a full-court press just to shorten the amount of time we have to run our offense, and when we start our offense with 20 seconds left on the clock that gives us 15 seconds before we just have to put up any shot--or 10 seconds before we do our standard clear out and set a pick for the point guard to drive and create. I suppose this could force us to become more purposeful and direct with our offense?

Shortening the shot clock would make basketball more like soccer and less like baseball. I think this would be an interesting experiment. Consider this: The most exciting situation that occurs in basketball is when a team has the ball with 10 seconds left and is down by 1 point. The most boring situation in basketball occurs when a team gets a new shot clock early in a game and then throws the ball around the perimeter for 30 seconds.

The women have played with 30 for years. The Men should be at 30.Â

Not true. The most boring situation in basketball occurs when the refs "go to the monitor," then step away from the monitor for a conference, then go back to the monitor, then call the other official over to look at the monitor, then have another conference, then go back to the monitor, then call the coaches over to discuss the situation with each of them, and then put another .4 seconds on the game clock... ???
THAT is the most boring situation in basketball...

When the women went to 30 from 35 I thought it made a big improvement in the flow of the game (and the value of a good defensive stop). It's nice to them experimenting with it in the NIT for the men, I hope it sticks.
