We're #65 -

Or is it #69 these days?
I don't know how we pulled it off, but somehow we gave up an 11 point halftime lead, Miami tied it to send it to overtime, we miss our first five shots in OT and commit two turnovers, and somehow pull it off, thanks to Randle drawing contact with 3.4 seconds left and down 1. Miami turns it over on the inbound, and we get to Brown who is fouled. He misses the first (grrr), makes the second (why?!?), Miami tries a homerun pass that goes off Brown and maybe went off Miami (but the refs ruled it didn't; it was hard to tell). Miami inbounds from under its basket goes for the win and misses the three.
Congrats to the NIT Champions. Hard to believe we deserved it, but I'll take it.

About 3 minutes into the 2nd half I finally remembered to put the game on WatchESPN on my tablet while working late. It worked great until the moment Miami threw the inbounds pass out of bounds with 3 seconds left and SU up. At that point the stream hung and wouldn't restart, but I thought "oh well, we have it sewn up now anyway". Looks like I missed some excitement!

It wasn't the good kind of excitement. They flashed a stat up there--Stanford's largest lead was 13 pts. Sound familiar? This team is good at giving away leads.

Exactly right -- this team has a hard time handling good fortune [i.e., "comfortable" leads]. And that, it seems to me is a legitimate criticism of the coaches. However, it seemed to me tonight that -- in stark contrast to last night [as well as to a number of earlier games this season when it happened] -- Dawkins was much quicker to call times out when Miami would make their mini-runs. It worked a couple of times, too -- we would run a play out of the time out that got us a basket after a long dry spell or change up the defense and get a stop. In other words -- at least I'm hoping -- maybe Dawkins showed some improvement in this area tonight that will carry over in this and other areas.
Now he only needs to figure out how to get Roscoe Allen to be able to throw the ball in the ocean every once in awhile [something he simply could not do tonight...]

If Stanford is unable to pull off the Director's Cup, then this win will be even more important. The world would be upside down if Stanford didn't win either the Director's Cup or the NIT in the same year.

I'd take the Director's Cup over the NIT...!

Not even close. One represents excellence over all other programs. The other represents excellence over a handful of mediocre teams.
