On the anniversary of the first Star Wars, Star Trek comes to life - Rally - 05-05-2015

My 93 year old mother loves her iPad and iPhone, and long ago adopted the microwave oven, Bluetooth and GPS.  We already have the communicator, with the transporter in very early stages of development, we now have the meal replicator.  Life is good if you live long enough.

Neat technology!  I just don't know if this passes the "Don't eat anything your grandmother would not recognize as food" rule.

My grandmother once put haggis in front of me, and I learned that rule works in reverse, too.

I dunno, Mick. I would pay just to SEE a freeze-dried haggis - Redrum - 05-06-2015

I said SEE.  Not eat.

Hmm, we may want to make that your GREAT grandmother. My grandmother, as with much of her generation, was into a lot of processed, packaged foods, as far as I could tell. Every vegetable she served seemed to come from a can. Every casserole dish started with "two cans of Campbells cream of mushroom..." or the equivalent.

I love haggis. It just has to be cooked properly. It's like corned beef hash on steroids. Some neeps and tatties on the side ... yum.

Never had haggis.  I did enjoy haggis-flavored potato chips, so I've been meaning to try haggis the next time I see it on a menu.  Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen it on a menu.

Try going to a non-profit restaurant.  No American for-profit place would put it on the menu.

Are you referring to the error(s) in the title?  If so, I noticed.  But I don't bother with such things.

Maybe the unlikelihood that haggis-flavored potato chips exist?

We have haggis with tatties and neeps every year on Burns Night (January 25). I actually kind of like it.

Re: On the anniversary of the first Star Wars, Star Trek comes to life - Langdude - 05-07-2015

I was in Glasgow on Burns Night in 2001, and we looked all over for a restaurant that would serve haggis, and we couldn't find one. The largest Scottish city, and all we could find was pub food, TGI Fridays, Chilis, McDonalds, and Indian food. Now I am sure that if we knew the city well, we could have found something. But also, like most cities, when they reach a certain size, capitalism usually shapes it into a generic global market, or at least the parts that tourists patronize.

I've lived in Haggisland for most of the past 25 years, and I will confirm that haggis is a fine dish, when taken in moderation.  By moderation, I mean once a year, January 25th, after consuming serious amounts of beer and whisky, and only if taken with an exactly equal amount of mashed root vegetables, namely turnips (neeps) and potatoes (tatties).

If Scotland ever gets independence, it's national flag should be chnaged from the insipid Saltire (white cross on a blue bckground) to a tri-colour of orange (neeps), white (tatties) and bilgewater (haggis).

Perhaps it's because you've never been to prison...

Is bilge water green?  If so then that flag is taken by your non-haggis inspired neighbors on the island to the west.

Re: On the anniversary of the first Star Wars, Star Trek comes to life - Stymie - 05-07-2015

Bilgewater depends on what organic substances have been deposited in the bilge.  Use your imagination.....
