I ask for an explanation and you give me a link. Glad I'm old.

Not to be pedantic, but I don't think this is the proper use of dap. Giving dap is a physical act: a handshake, a pound, etc. It does not, as I have ever heard the term used, mean to give a simple shout-out (aka "shouts", aka "love"). To me, the best example of giving dap is what you see between players right before tip-off of an NBA game (though less so in the playoffs, where there is some bad blood between teams). Also unclear to me is whether you can give some dap. I think it is an all or nothing proposition.
Example: "When I bumped into X at reunion he gave me dap and asked about my family."
Don't be afraid to use it as a verb as well. You can dap someone up or be dapped.

As my NYC friends might say, "Hey! Dap this!"

Unless Sherman was helping Richards caulk his shower pan, WIM probably means a metaphorical social media dap.
