I've always believed that Silicon Valley's true strength was in its failures. A CEO of a failed company usually knows a lot more about why it failed than a successful one knows why it succeeded.

Some truth to that. Years ago, a colleague of mine at a large company interviewed unsuccessfully several times to be CEO at smaller companies. When he asked for feedback, it was, "We liked you very much but you have no experience shutting down a company."
