I might have mentioned this earlier, but university administrators (in decision-making spots) feel that unless Stanford can recruit well at DB (a crucial position they feel is most difficult to recruit), Stanford won't have a shot at a NC in this day and age of college football.  We need more student-athletes like Alex Carter.  (Which way to the DB orchard?)

They're right that you cannot win an NC without good DBs, because five of your 11 defenders at most given moments are defensive backs, and the sixth often is a safety/OLB hybrid.

Duane Akina is clearly Johnny Appleseed in this analogy. While Stanford DB recruiting isn't elite nationally, it is much better than previous years. And given the elite defenses we've been able to fashion, it's pretty exciting to think of what can be done with the improvement.
