Calling Hulk... reminder of an oldie but goody - FrankO - 06-02-2015

Frank, was the copy with it appropriately reverent?  Did it describe with an adjective like "unmatched"?

absolutely... - FrankO - 06-02-2015

included some pics as Dolly in addition to more recent;  that in itself reverence enough... but to Dev'pt Office especially,  she memorialized her dad in her gift... ;)

Hey Frank... nice to see you my friend.  How are things over at the CEB?

There is little left of the erudite discourse that characterized that board in the years before, say, Stanford football began taking off.  If you are a mammal with a right and a left forelimb then you are waved in.  That place has become the number one draw on the Bootleg's webspace for non-Stanford fans

Re: Calling Hulk... reminder of an oldie but goody - BostonCard - 06-04-2015

LOL Sam.  There was a period of time when what was most likely a bot was posting random conspiratorial stuff (as a weird clickbait strategy?).  So, being a mammal might not have been a requirement.  Last I checked there were a couple nutcases posting; they seemed human, in that I think they would have passed a Turing test, but it required a liberal definition of humanity.  "Professional troll" might have been their occupation.

I just went back to post a quick article that I caught in Science (interesting enough to do a password reset and login), but I quickly logged out again and am now ducking for cover.

Best to think of the CEB as one of those bug lights... - Redrum - 06-04-2015

It draws the bugs in.  But they left out the "ZZZapp!!" feature so it's quite a collection of regulars--a surprising number all agreeing with and reinforcing one another-- by now.

And, yes...I really do believe anyone who loves politics more than Stanford football or lets politics color his view of fellow Stanford fans or relishes the chance to use the CEB to enjoy a beatdown  really does deserve a ZZZapp!!, preferably to the testicles.

Is that near Rio Linda?

Not sure what exactly needed translating... - Redrum - 06-05-2015

but my guess is "CEB"  which stands for Current Events Board over on the Bootleg.  Originally created to pull off-topic posts (which were often political comment or sniping)  off the Football boards,  it has over time become a kind of combat zone with a life of its own, where egos and political viewpoints go for exercise.  Time spent over there really, really, really makes one appreciate the self-imposed, self-regulating civility and freedom from most politics of the Cardboard.

The truly funny part is that there are posts and posters that are too wild for even the CEB, and they are relegated to the "Thunderdome" board.  Seen to be believed.

The Thunderdome is where all caps are not just allowed but practically mandatory. ::)

Things are fine on the CEB, BC... - FrankO - 06-05-2015

in many instances still interesting and informative even with the occasional troll... as for the exchange/repartee most is fine/civil... and with a few, just need a thick skin and sense of humor...

I wouldn't say things are fine on the Bootleg's Current Events Board. It seems to me that most of those who don't agree with the prevailing viewpoint over there have drifted away, or been driven away. It seems that almost everyone remaining on that board is in lock-step on most issues. I think it's becoming an echo chamber.

Re: Calling Hulk... reminder of an oldie but goody - BobK - 06-07-2015

It's the main part of the bootleg decline sadly.  Used to be informative now just anti anything main stream America.  So many opinions stated as fact and now it has racist trolls.

Thanks Terry for fighting the good fight.  Whether I agree or disagree with your viewpoint, I always learn something reading your posts (and I still lurk there sometimes).
