Patrick Rodgers going great at the Memorial - CornFed - 06-05-2015

I think Patrick is still short by a smidgeon of the dollar amount of winnings needed to get his Tour card.  I was given to understand that he was about $40,000 short after his top 10 finish a few weeks ago.  He missed a secondary cut at another tournament, and I doubt the payout was anywhere near enough to close the gap.  It is a near certainty that he will get his Tour card, but it would be nice to get it done sooner, rather than later.

At Jack Nicklaus's Memorial Tournament Patrick must be playing under a sponsor's exemption.  Speaks volumes about how he is regarded that he could snag such a valuable allowance at such a prestigious event.  He opened in the first round at -3 and is following up today strongly.  He is -3 on the day after 14 holes, having started on the back nine.  The leader is at -12 and the cut is projected to be -1.  Unfortunately, he has not gotten any face time on the television broadcast, however.

If he puts another -3 on the board he'll see face time on Sunday, which is the only day when anyone watches :P

Holy mackeral!  Patrick birdied three of the last four holes to finish at -9!!!!

So, in effect, winflop, he is one day ahead of the target schedule you set.  He will definitely get some early coverage tomorrow.

Wow what a finish!  That will generate some buzz for him and should lock up a 2016 Tour card which is an awesome accomplishment!

Indeed he will get coverage tomorrow but unfortunately few will be watching.  He will still need a decent round tomorrow to get eyeballs on Sunday.

Bit of a rough start today.  He's +2 over the first four holes.  It's hard out there!

It's so hard, Tiger Woods shot 85 today.  ???

Three guys in at 65 already, one 66, and a pair of 67s.  Not playing so tough for everyone.

They're probably cheatin'.

Rodgers, by the way, went +3 on the front nine but has gotten one back on the homeward half.

Oof!  Meltdown.  +6 for the round.  They finally put the camera on him as he putted out on 18 for bogey and a 78.  Couldn't hear clearly, but Nick an Jack were talking about him.  They were saying there is something about the Memorial that counts toward his winnings and getting his Tour card.  I heard Faldo close by saying that, "Then tomorrow [Sunday] is really like the final round of Q school for him."  Did anyone hear the details?  I'm wondering if he doesn't win enough money tomorrow, why can't he try to get another sponsor's exemption and try again?  I realize there has to be a time limit, or is it like those medical exemptions that give you a specific number of tournaments to win enough money to get exempted.  They sure have some intricate rules about this kind of stuff.

I walked in the house as Rodgers was putting out on 18.  I thought I heard Nantz and Faldo say that Rodgers had to finish at +2 or better.  But I don't know if that means in the final round or for the tournament.

He needs to finish solo-62nd or better.  After today's round, that's Mickelson at +2.

A solid round tomorrow and he's got his card.

Finished tied for 40th and -2. Won $21,000.

Congrats to Patrick, who just had his tour card punched, easily beating the cutoff.
