Why isn't MBB recruiting overseas? -

Reading up on Dellavedova and saw that he was an Academic-All American. With Stanford's international reputation, I bet we could beat any school head to head for a recruit. Yet the only Stanford basketball player I can think of from overseas is Andrew Vlahov.

I was about to say something like, "It'd be difficult to get the classes to translate," but I know men's tennis and women's basketball has recruited foreigners before.
My main guess, actually, is that (in general) foreign athletes are trained in systems even more hyper-focused on professionalism than the U.S. Often they barely have the pretense of academics; indeed often the best players turn pro at 15, 16, etc. It's not a conducive environment for Stanford athletes. That's not to say the coaches should ignore it or be unimaginative, but it strikes me as unfruitful.

IIRC, Darren Allaway also but that was awhile back as well. Nastic and Powell, I think, are Canadian, but Powell went to IMG, and you did ask about recruiting overseas, and not "over-the-lakes"

Dellavedova studied at the AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) in Canberra as a teenager; I guess the closest thing to the AIS in the US is IMG Academy in Florida, but the AIS is government run with the main focus being essentially to foster promising athletes to become olympic gold medallists.
My older sister was actually a tutor at the AIS for a couple of years; she told me that the students were a mixed bag, but for the most part the basketball players weren't particularly bright. Her best students were archers (and some of them were extremely high achieving), if I remember correctly.

We have a club archery team, started in the '02-'03 school year. I was a charter member of that team. We took down perennial power Long Beach State at the Cal_State Indoor championships that year in the men's team recurve division. The team is still around, and I think they shoot both recurve and compound.
AIS = govt version of IMG. Think of the Olympic training centers, but with some schools attached to them.

I assume it's the club that does archery every weekend in the morning in a field by El Camino. They rope off the area behind the targets just in case they miss. :)

I think it's still the Serra Field. There should be a plastic shed where all the targets and target stands are stored...unless that's been upgraded.
Publius, I'll have to check out that Youtube vid later--company network filters Youtube, all social media, all filesharing, and all non-company email.

Pub- Didn't we have an Aussie in our era, I knew him as Tall Paul, part of the NIT championship team in '90-'91. I think he graduated in 1992.

Hey, we all forgot, more recently there's been Matei Dayan - in this interview, he said he was recruited by Trent Johnson's staff:
