Stanford needs to do a better job covering football - OutsiderFan - 08-15-2015

The coverage of the football team is kinda of a joke in the 24/7 short attention span, Twittering world of 2015 media.  If you're going to close the practices to media, you should be doing your own reporting and interviewing.

I can go on the Ca.l athletic site and see DAILY coverage of what is happening with football practice.  And that doesn't include the Ca.l Rivals site that live reports everything happening in their practices because they are open to the media.

The last story on anything from Stanford training camp on the official Stanford site was August 11.  The last interview posted from Shaw was August 10.  How many practices have their been this week?

Is there any media outlet that is covering Stanford training camp on a daily basis?

I couldn't care less about coverage during preseason, and I rather Shaw kept things under wraps.

I the team plays well, there will be PLENTY of coverage.

I agree, garvin.  That was the thrust of my reaction to the video interview w/ Dallas Lloyd and others.  Makes it actually sound like they are "whistling through the graveyard".  At best, I can't take it as anything more than empty blather.

+1.  Frankly, I don't want to hear the helium-induced ravings during preseason.

Plus there is a new today story

Plus plus you sure they practiced yesterday ?

Seems our coverage is very civilized.

With you: If you're planning to invade Normandy, don't tell us when, how, or even if.

Yup, and coverage can be distracting to both players and coaches.

Just three weeks left before all this preseason hype is in the rear view mirror.

While I find the communications-people-aping-journalists content to be tedious, there is one high-quality area that I wish Stanford put out more stuff: highlight videos. They've got some great highlights at vimeo.com/stanfordfootball, but why not more? There's not a single decent highlight video of Christian McCaffrey's freshman year. In our internet-saturated age that's incredible.

In the end, when I follow preseason (and recruiting stuff, and pretty much anything on the interwebs) I feel like these two most of the time.  I know I probably look like them while I'm staring at the screen.
