Tight End U - BostonCard - 08-17-2015

I loved the quote by Monte Kiffin:

"[Stanford's tight ends] look like offensive tackles. And then all of a sudden, you see [one of them] streaking down the field and he runs a 4.5 40."

Oh, and there is a nice link to this video:

Wow!  Was that fun?  Sound track was fabulous.  Is that eminem?

Looking forward to seeing a very similar highlight reel at the end of this season.  Totally psyched!!!

LOVED IT!!!  Wanted to hear Stefan on the soundtrack, but loved it nonetheless.

Re: Tight End U - Hurlburt88 - 08-17-2015

great video.  One thing I also noticed is how luck could have his  body and head oriented in one direction, and then quickly reset & throw.  Not just a look-off, but a quick reorientation of his body.  for any DB or LB trying to read the quarterback an absolute and total fake-out.

*waits*...*waits*...

Well, fine. I hate to gratuitously pick on David Lombardi but:

Quote:But Coby Fleener, Zach Ertz, Levine Toilolo, and Konrad Reuland -- the giants who comprised the position group in those days -- were all in the NFL after the 2012 season was done, and Stanford's offense staggered as a result. Tight ends combined for only 10 catches in 2013, and a freshman replacement crop didn't establish consistent rapport with quarterback Kevin Hogan until late in 2014...

But the offense in 2013 was better than in 2012 or 2014. Theories that the tight end occupies some special, irreplaceable role in the Stanford offense don't survive contact with reality. Obviously it's better to have good tight ends; it would've been better to have good, rather than sub-replacement-level tight ends, in 2013. Nevertheless the lack of good tight ends did not stop the 2013 Stanford offense from enjoying its best post-Luck year.

Re: Tight End U - Treebound - 08-17-2015

Sorry WIM,
I will agree to disagree.  Had Toilolo stayed, we would have been an even better team in 2013.  It was a gaping hole and an offense firing on ALL cylinders may have taken us to the next level that year.  Ertz and Fleener were fantastic, but the "baby giraffe" as some called him, would have been better off staying for another year.  I believe the team would have been better to have him in the TE position.  With our offense, the athletic TE makes great plays both in terms of catching, blocking and as a safety pass or decoy.

Not disagreeing, if you'll note my description of "sub-replacement-level TEs." Still, the offense in 2013 was overall pretty solid -- and much better than the 2014, which featured strong TE play. In other words, TE play doesn't seem to correlate strongly with Stanford offensive success, though it's surely better to have good TEs than not.

Nice video. Love the TEs. That #12 guy is pretty good too.
