I remember back in the 90s, when we were winning 3 or 4 a year, that most assumed we'd catch UCLA's total by around 2005. But we slowed down, and they've been doing well.

But we slowed down, and they've been doing well.I remember back in 1999 it was close enough that UCLA needed to wait until Stanford didn't win a few NCs in December before they could appoint themselves the school of the century. In the last 15 years UCLA has actually expanded their lead a touch. The count of Stanford NCs by decade reveals the change. Don't have the numbers in front of me, but the average haul per year has dropped quite a bit. 80s were impressive. 90s were crazy. 00s were not bad. 10s have been really lean.
