Sad news. Â JJ was a great contributor and battled through terrible injuries. Â I very much enjoyed watching he play and wish her the best.

I hope that (1) she gets her degree and (2) the \'violation of team rules\' is something like she got in a shouting match with Tara. My fear is that there is serious dirt somewhere that is going to get uncovered.

Garvin, someone left a comment on Michelle Smith\'s blog (she\'s a former SFChron reporter) about what you\'re referring to.
I\'m not going to list the names w/out some sort of fact checking, but you can follow the link here:

I scanned Twitter for clues about why Hones was kicked off the team, but didn\'t find anything (though I did find out that Ros is apparently going to audition for ESPN). Maybe that\'s for the best.
Anyway, it seems like a big loss for the team to me. Since it\'s a rare event, I tend to think Tara must have made the decision with much information in hand and all due deliberation.

The state of Oregon has had its recent incidents with golf carts as well.

If drunken golf carting gets you thrown off the team, Stanford athletics would maybe...MAYBE...be able to field a fencing team. Football and basketball, right out.

I had friends on the fencing team back in my day... I don\'t think we\'d be able to field a fencing team either.
A real shame. Â The police report is troubling. Â I hope JJ can get her life back in order after this.

A great competitor who endured a lot for the love of the game ..... she\'ll be missed. Â Hopefully she didn\'t just lose her support structure when she needs it most.
In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.

Good point, Garvin. Â I guess I\'m still digesting this news. Â Hopefully it\'s just a single dumb mistake on JJ\'s part. Â Goodness knows I do my best to forget the dumb things I did at 21...

All good points .... I\'d hate the dumb things I did in college to be internet fodder. Â Some of them are cringe worthy even 20 years later. Â
It\'s difficult to fault Tara without knowing the facts but racing a golf cart, even while drunk, doesn\'t meet my standard for unforgivable sin.

JJ clearly crossed a line with Tara and it may have been when she was arrested. Â Perhaps Tara has a rule that any arrest, no matter the charge, is cause for dismissal. Â

I\'m not sure if a potential 5th year returning player should get more leeway, presuming they\'ve been devoted to the program for four years, or less leeway, since they really should know better than to screw up like this.
Probably it all depends on the player.

Outright dismissal seems overly harsh. This was on campus, not the 101. I support running a tight ship, for sure, but this is not stealing someone\'s laptop.

Well, we don\'t know if this was a straw that broke Tara\'s back after a series of issues or was just an isolated incident.

It\'s a very sad situation for all, JJ, her family her friends and teammates and Tara and her staff. Â
Chandra Benton was the other. Â Melody Peterson graduated in 3 years and went to Nebraska Grad school and played another year. Â Not sure if she could have stayed at Stanford. Â
Rucker then transferred to cal in 93\', graduated and then the really big hurt.
