Anyone else getting irked by people qualifying McCaffrey's record?  "It took him two more games..."  He broke the record early in the 2nd quarter, iirc, so it took him just over one additional game, but he still did it on fewer touches.

It's not really that crazy to think about how many games were involved.

All purpose yards combines efficiency and workload to measure total contribution to a team. Noting that McCaffrey got there on fewer touches indicates more efficiency. However, you really don't want to go all in on yds/touch - there's a ton of guys with more yds/play than McCaffrey. These guys aren't nearly as valuable as McCaffrey as they don't carry nearly the offensive load.
[For example, the #3 guy is a Texas Tech receiver who averages 17.5 yds/touch to McCaffrey's 8.5 but he only has 124 touches to McCaffrey's 410. ]


So, yds/game doesn't take into account pace of play or how the game has changed in the past 26 years, but it's probably the best option for comparing All Purpose Yards.

You're absolutely right.  Regardless of how things turn out next Saturday, next year we should promote him as an OMNI-back or a hybrid back; something to highlight his multi-dimensionality.

Oh it's not crazy to mention that it took more games, that context is essential. But just saying that makes one think that they got about the same number of touches per game, so Sanders was more efficient and carried more load. Knowing that Sanders carried more of the load but was slightly less efficient than McCaffrey makes the whole view more nuanced, and makes McCaffrey's performance more impressive.

FWIW, there is a poll on the Ca.l Rivals board for "Who will win the Voldemort Trophy?"

CMac has the most votes.  That was surprising to me, because I know they are loathe to see Stanford win a Voldemort in addition to going to Rose Bowls in 3/4 years.

I know I'm clearly biased so it's hard to say that, but it's not clear that Henry is the best player on his own team, the best RB in his own conference, and he's very clearly not the best RB in the country. If it were between McCaffrey and Cook or if Watson weren't clearly going to be #3 then I could see it, but if you take off the blinders at all Henry just has no case whatsoever.
