The source is football scoop, which is a lot of rumor.  And I don't know if this necessarily hurts or helps UCLA.  Noel Mazzonne is well regarded, but I haven't been impressed with UCLA's offensive gameplans.

According to CBS, which is a bit more reputable, A&M will indeed hire Mazzone.

Under Mazzone, UCLA's offense ranked 45th, 36th, 20th and 31st in the nation in scoring offense.

One year in the top-25 with their talent seems to be underperformance in my eyes.

Of course scoring offense is a flawed metric because of the wildly varying paces and schedules these days. (The 59ers had a higher-scoring offense than Stanford this year. Would anyone, even those wearing blue and gold, take the 59er offense ahead of the Stanford one?)

Personally I don't know if it's a great metric or not. I know almost nothing about it (think I saw it was play-based). It also gives a team a number like 19.3, which intuitively means nothing to me.

I think the FPI scores are, like S&P+, supposed to be some sort of "points per game above average" thing. I do know that you're supposed to be able to generate spreads by subtracting FPIs from each other.

I think the FPI scores are, like S&P+, supposed to be some sort of "points per game above average" thing. I do know that you're supposed to be able to generate spreads by subtracting FPIs from each other.

A&M is paying them a lot of money.  Based on the web it sounds like he wasn't all that well liked at UCLA.

Rosen ended up #55 in NCAA FBS passer rating.  Interesting that the OC and QB coach both left...I wonder how difficult he is to deal with.

Rosen ended up #55 in NCAA FBS passer rating.  Interesting that the OC and QB coach both left...I wonder how difficult he is to deal with.

Son's resume is pretty thin.  IMO, whatever improvement  Rosen has in the off season would have been on his own.

I'm hoping Rosen falls victim to the dreaded sophomore slump.  :)

Once the fans turn on a particular coach and decide he's no good, there's not a whole lot that can be done to change that attitude, i think. 

If Rosen develops next year: Look at what Rosen has done IN SPITE OF the coaching!

If Rosen regresses next year: Those stupid coaches couldn't even develop Rosen!

Sometimes the best move is just taking the lucrative offer elsewhere and starting (relatively) fresh.
