Still, Ohio State ultimately benefited from quarterback J.T. Barrett’s poor play down the stretch

I know what they meant, but still one of the weirder sentences I have read.  I mean, did Stanford "suffer" from Solomon Thomas' incredible Sun Bowl performance?

I don't know about ultimately.  What if they had won it all this season with Barrett's hypothetically good performance?  That has to be weighed against next season's potential, which could still turn out to be a copy of this season's results.
