I became a Stanford football fan in 1971, but I became a UNC basketball fan in 1967. I grew up a Dayton basketball fan, and I was cheering like hell for them in their 1967 Final Four game vs UNC. That was the first time I ever saw UNC, and I knew immediately that something changed inside me (pardon my corniness). The most beautiful color I ever saw.

The discussion about Maravich fits very well here. The basketball "culture" of that time was "me, me, me". Stars constantly complained (openly on court) when they were taken out of the game. You had those monstrous player scoring averages. I can't prove it, but I think the words "chucker" and "ball hog" actually came into being around that time. Then here comes a team (UNC) whose players raised their fist when they were tired, asking to come out in favor of a rested teammate!

If it turns out that Roy Williams ruins everything that Dean built up, I will be very mad and very sad. I wish they would get it over with so recruits know what's what.

I wonder if the UMD president is baiting the NCAA into action.  It's also unclear to me why he spoke out, but now that he's done so, the NCAA maybe publicly be presumed to have grounds for severe sanctions.

Maryland, an original ACC member, chafed so much under the rule of the 'Carolina mafia' that they up and left.  It ended up costing them $31 million (out of the original exit fee of $52 million), but they were more than willing to get out from under the iron-fisted Tobacco Road cabal, which is really just Carolina and Duke; I don't think Wake and State are in quite the same league as those two outfits. Think of that; a school only 30 miles from Chesapeake Bay is in the Midwest now.

The hate from UMD toward all things Tarhole runs deep. And if you think that's bad, you should have seen the anti-Duke stuff; back when they still played each other at least twice a year.

Personally, I don't care what the NCAA does; I'd love to see the ACC toss Carolina to the curb permanently.  (Yeah sure. Fat chance.) The power has shifted!!!!!

Some NC legislators just proposed a bill to remove all NC state schools from the ACC if it boycotts NC again, so NC might take care of that problem for them.  (I mean the easiest way would be for NC to simply not pass asshole laws...)

Really? I mean REALLY? Umd football probation 2003. Umd basketball probation 1991-1993. Lefty covering up that Bias partied with a convicted drug dealer. Bias "graduated" 21 freaking credits short. Gary Williams drunk driving. Most people said good riddance when Umd left for the Big Ten. It's their problem now.

The UNC case hasn't even been adjudicated yet. The pot is calling the kettle black, and the kettle hasn't even been shown yet.

No, 7 years after the fraud came to light and at least 20 years after it allegedly started, it hasn't even been adjudicated. I doubt it ever will.

P.S. Always have had great respect for Dean Smith and UNC, and Chapel Thrill is a great college town. Such a shame their AD took a win at whatever cost attitude, apparently.  Funny how their football program has chronically underachieved though.
