Maryland, an original ACC member, chafed so much under the rule of the 'Carolina mafia' that they up and left. It ended up costing them $31 million (out of the original exit fee of $52 million), but they were more than willing to get out from under the iron-fisted Tobacco Road cabal, which is really just Carolina and Duke; I don't think Wake and State are in quite the same league as those two outfits. Think of that; a school only 30 miles from Chesapeake Bay is in the Midwest now.
The hate from UMD toward all things Tarhole runs deep. And if you think that's bad, you should have seen the anti-Duke stuff; back when they still played each other at least twice a year.
Personally, I don't care what the NCAA does; I'd love to see the ACC toss Carolina to the curb permanently. (Yeah sure. Fat chance.) The power has shifted!!!!!
