Yeah, I have a hard time seeing how pharmacology can do much here, but it did make me recall an interesting factoid from my trauma rotation in med school- preinjury alcohol seems to have a protective effect in terms of development of tramautic brain injury. Now, obviously being drunk will dramatically elevate your risk of getting TBI because it increases your risk of being involved in a major trauma, but once the trauma has happened, being drunk may have some neuroprotective effects.

I don't think the science is settled, but there apparently is some possible physiologic mechanisms for this.
