Basically Doug Baldwin is killing it today in various ways, and eventually they start praising his offensive play. And Jon Gruden starts praising guys like Jim Harbaugh, Andrew Luck, and David Shaw, and culminates with something along the lines of "that Stanford pedigree really helped him out."

Basically if I were Shaw I'd keep that line DVRed and play it to various recruits.

I can't believe nobody has suggested that if Baldwin had played with  Stanford this year, that Luck would have won the Voldemort.  He would have, IMO.

Uh huh!  Then back it up with a few of the ESPN documentaries.  The first should be the "Marinovich Project" to scare the parents into understanding that LA is a terrible place to go to college.  And follow it up with "Marcus Dupree - The Best That Never Was" to seal the deal on the importance of athletics AND academics.

Think your a great QB or a great RB?  Might be, but there is a better path.  A path that can get you to the NFL if you are good AND lucky, and simultaneously offering you a path to keep you away from the life path those guys have suffered through.

Important note: Shaw was an assistant under Gruden with the Raiders. Wouldn't be surprised if we heard more copious praise at appropriate moments from Gruden (assuming he stays in the booth).

Baldwin had three other offers:  Florida Atlantic,  Florida International and Louisiana (Louisiana College,  not Louisiana State University).  He was a 2-star until very late in the recruiting game. The Stanford offer might have been the key to his bump to 3-star..  And,  to be honest,  he was playing like a 2-star for a good part of his college career.  Statistically, he trended worse for most of his career.  In his first season  (2007) he played in 12 games and was 6th on the receptions list with 93 yrds. total and 555 kick off return yds.  In 2008 he was Stanford's #2 receiver  with 332 yds but only 155 punt return yds. By 2009 he only played in 7 games [don't know if that was due to injury or the fact he was playing like the 9th best receiver on the team, which he was]  had only 78 yds and 4 tds.  Then, by his own admission,  the light went on. He finished 2010 and the leading receiver with 857 yds and 9 TDs.    Who'd a thunk it after his junior year?  And now, apparently,  the light is still on.

Saw this game in person, so didn't hear the announcers, but a certain Mr. Richard Sherman gave a up a bunch of penalties. Including a completely unnecessary 'taunting' penalty. Doesn't augur well for Stanford football as I understand it. Play the game the right way.

Baldwin was in Harbaugh's doghouse his junior year - reasons unknown.  [But remember that Baldwin signed as a FA with Seattle and had no interest in the 'Niners, if I understand things correctly]. 

As for Baldwin's abilities as a collegiate player, all one had to see was the game at TCU where Baldwin single-handedly kept Stanford in that game against a very, very, very good defense.  There was never any doubt in my mind that Baldwin had the making of an elite player - which we all saw his senior year (and are seeing now in the NFL - good for Doug!).
