No not football. Today is one hit wonder day, and since we have discussed music before, I am interested in what you all think of as the one hit wonders of your time. Keeping in mind I have been locked out of the board for 2+ months I though this might get some discussion going.

I will start, I was born in the 70's and saw MTV when they still played music. My top 10 (not in order, just how they occur to me):

1. Achy Breaky Heart- Billy Ray Cyrus (The first country album I bought, I will say that I thought Some Gave All on this LP should exclude it from this list). 
   
2. 99 Red Balloons - Nena (Memories of Jr. High)
   
3. Soft Cell- Tainted Love (I prefer the Marilyn Manson Cover)
   
4. Tub Thumping- Chumba Wamba (I was bar tending at City Pub in RWC when it hit).
   
5. MMM MMM MMM - Crash Test Dummies (my first wife loved this song, I know hate it).
   
6. Because I Got High - Afro Man (I was bouncing frat parties in grad school when this hit, still makes me want to punch someone).
   
7. Crown of Thorns - Mother Love Bone (This song was featured on the Say Anything soundtrack. It was the bands only big hit before the lead singer OD'd and Eddie Vetter joined the band to create what would be known as Pearl Jam).
   
8. My Sharona - The Knack (I remember watching my brother's best friend learn this on the drums).
   
9. Cult of Personality - Living Colour (The first African American metal band to break into the top forty, I use this song as an intro to my lecture on personality development in my class).
   
10. More Than Words - Extreme (This song was played almost non stop in my freshman dorm, it is an ear worm for me.)

Rappers Delight -- Sugarhill Gang

Sugarhill Gang is known more for being the first artists to popularize rap.  Yeah, I get that "Rappers Delight" (which was the first popular song to feature rap) was really their only hit and thus technically fits the definition of "one hit wonder", to include them in a list of artists who are otherwise completely forgettable seems somewhat unfair.  If Sir Mix-A-Lot had never recorded "Baby Got Back", the musical world would not be any different.  But had "Rappers Delight" never come along, it is possible that an entire musical genre would have developed differently (though, I imagine that some other hip hop song that featured rap would have come along sooner or later and popularized the genre).  My point is that it was a much more monumental song than any of the others mentioned in this thread (with the possible exception of "All Right Now", at least for this audience).

To bring it back On Topic.  "Who Let the Dogs Out" reminds me of either the 2000 or 2001 Big Game Watch in Boston.  Kal jumped to a big early lead and the Boston-area Weenies started chanting "Who Let the Bears Out".  Stanford mounted a come back and I started the "Who Let the Trees Out" chant.

Back off topic, while Tainted Love is no doubt Soft Cell's only identifiable hit.  They have several other excellent songs such as It's A Mugs Game and What.  Little known fact, Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" is a cover.

I have a minor quibble with the characterization of Rob Base as a One Hit Wonder. "Joy and Pain" is also a great song and a hit in its day.
