We clobbered them so bad in the 1H (46-16) that Da Silva, Davis, Terry, and Jones sat for most of the 2H. When your walk-ons and Fitzmorris get 5 mins straight to close it out, that's a good day. Delaire with a career-high 21 points, and Jones 4 for 5 from deep.
Interesting analysis. Were you actually there? I was...along with maybe 750-1000 others.
It is true that we almost held them below 15 points in the first half, while going 6 for 7 from 3-point range and creating a lead that was virtually impossible to lose. Which was fortunate, since the first 8 minutes of the second half was, literally and without exaggeration, some of the worst basketball Stanford has played in decades. It was truly bizarre. During that stretch, we committed several more turnovers than we scored points. We couldn’t rebound anything. And, it wasn’t just end of the bench players. Terry and da Silva (iirc) missed back to back breakaway dunks. There were several passes to no one. It was bad basketball played badly, and an opponent that couldn’t do a thing right in the first half out scored us 21-10 at one point in the second half (against both our starters and scrubs).
In the end, we managed to stabilize things, but still... Maybe (hopefully) this was a one-off situation, but, if it happens again against a team that is not completely hapless, it could be ugly. Like tonight’s crowd...
