With Little returning, I count 9 returning scholarship offensive linemen (7 of whom have started at least one game) + 4 incoming frosh + maybe one more commit outstanding. The OL will have a lot of experience. Let's hope that they get the coaching and development to become a strength again for the team. The potential is there.

This isn't a surprise, but it certainly presents an interesting dynamic for the 2020 OL.
Walker Little has been a great pass protector, but not distinguished himself as a run blocker. Foster Sarell hasn't been great in any way. Walter Rouse played what, 11 games and acquitted himself pretty well for a true Frosh. Branson Bragg has been a highly touted OL. He can play RT, but might be better inside. And of course, Myles Hinton will be a Frosh, and he might be better than all of them, who knows. It would be rough for Rouse, Hornibrook, and Miller to start as True Frosh and then not start as Sophs.

I should add that with all of the options Stanford should have for OL for next year, they may barely have enough healthy linemen for spring practice.

I think Rouse will be a star but am concerned with what looked like a devastating injury in the South Bend game. Liked what I saw of the St. John Bosco kid the other night. Too bad that QB is going to Clemson. I love Butter II but that kid looks like a future Voldemort winner.
Of other weekend games the new service policy will allow the Navy QB to play in the NFL. As a late round pick the Niners could use him as a change of pace.

Saw a clip on Walter's Instagram story the other day in which he was happily showcasing his now boot-less foot (crutch-free), so it sounds like that will be a much shorter recovery that originally feared!
Very excited to see all of these guys compete next year, and fully expect that competition to make them all better. We should be significantly improved, on the offensive side of the ball at least, next year.

I don't know... those stats were a bit deceiving. As the first bullet point acknowledges, there were only three power 5 true frosh left tackles who played in 12 games. Thus, his blocking efficiency and pressures allowed stats are not based on a large number of candidates for comparison. I think Rouse had a nice season, and he stepped up when we needed him. But I'm not sure the stats prove anything one way or another.

Rouse not the stud people here make him out to be (just watch the film)...BUT it's near-impossible for a true frosh to be college-level good, especially at LT. (Bonafide mega-stud 5* recruits like Walker Little and Oregon's Penei Sewell the exceptions to the rule.) I think he'll develop very well, as will the other frosh who saw plenty of PT. I like Miller, and Bragg looked really good in his limited action before injury.
I don't believe the frosh will as be disappointed to "lose their starting jobs" as we might think, since none of them were starters to begin the season in the first place. Most probably didn't expect to play much this season, and in a "normal" OL room they wouldn't have for at least another 2 years.
At least this year we'll have enough OL bodies for spring ball and team activities; Rouse and walk-on Pease (an OL dad claimed he looked good enough to earn a scholarship before getting hurt) should be back in time, 5 OL (3 other frosh, Dalman and Sarell) survived the season, and walk-on Lush will be available. I don't even count Trey Stratford as being on the team at this point. That makes 8, pending Little and Bragg returning (and either of the OL in the portal possibly coming back, who knows). Still sad but better than last year.
For fall, pending commits and/or portal returners:

Don’t care about the stats the kid protected. As for Stanford run blocking and with all do respect to Scarlett nobody on this roster hits the hole hard enough.
And Sam with all do nobody watches film anymore. Nor tape. We are watching digital content shot on wafer thin cards. You guys have a much better idea of how those little pieces of info get on that card. I gave up when we went to tape. But I could spend hours boring you to death with stuff about what you could literally hold in your hand and view.

Held his own despite being 9 months removed from playing pathetically weak high school competition. Massive difference between a guy like Drake Metcalf playing for St. John Bosco in CA's highest division, and Rouse playing in the lowest division in DC. Extremely impressive and bodes very well for him moving forward.

To put it another way, 11 offensive linemen were selected to the first (5) or second (6) team all conference team, and 12 more were honorable mention. That means that out of 60 OL slots, 23 (38%) were at least honorable mention. So, Rouse was not considered to be in the top ~2/5th of offensive linemen in the conference.
As pointed out, he was just a freshman, and I counted only one true freshman and three redshirt freshmen on the all conference team.

Rouse was a 4 star recruit based on his offer list that included Clemson and Notre Dame among others. His competition in High School was weak, but you could see the athlete he was in his highlight vids.
It was evident to me watching the bits of the Notre Dame game I saw, that the right side of the OL was the problem, not the left side. The left side had two True Frosh in Rouse and Miller. The right side had one in Hornibrook + Sarell. Draw your own conclusions.

Given the injuries, I thought the o line (with the exception of the UCLA game) played better than we had a right to expect. I don’t think 2019 was a reflection on Carberry.
Getting back to being able to run the ball is crucial. If they can’t run, they can’t win.

Still disagree. He will have 3 guys older than sophomores/RS freshmen next year, pending any other returners. It's a complete ground-up rebuild.
In 2021 I might be inclined to agree with you, but we will likely have MAYBE 2 fifth year (Dalman and Sarell) and ZERO seniors because Stratford is dead and Bloomgren completely f***ed us over.

The OL will have a lot of experience. Let's hope that they get the coaching and development to become a strength again for the team. The potential is there.

Still disagree. He will have 3 guys older than sophomores/RS freshmen next year, pending any other returners. It's a complete ground-up rebuild.
In 2021 I might be inclined to agree with you, but we will likely have MAYBE 2 fifth year (Dalman and Sarell) and ZERO seniors because Stratford is dead and Bloomgren completely f***ed us over.
