If you play 4 or fewer games during a season BECAUSE OF INJURY AND ONLY BECAUSE OF INJURY, it can count as a "medical redshirt" if you apply for it.
If you are hurt during your sixth year (that you applied for and got due to aforementioned "second redshirt"), you're SOL.
Note that a significant number of our grad transfers are doing this. Hamilton, Powell, and Peek will all have two years to play (and therefore get their Masters fully paid for) because they each missed the majority of a season due to injury. I don't think a sixth year is really feasible at Stanford for most players because a sixth year is past co-term territory; you have to get into a full-fledged two year Masters program (IBS did a CS Masters, for example), which is quite difficult. Plus, a lot of guys want to get MBAs, and the GSB isn't exactly the easiest school to get into...
