That's really a shame for Stanford, but I hope she lands somewhere that will really appreciate her. I do wonder what the story is. Possibly that Anna is going to get a redshirt? If that's the reason, at least there's a silver lining to this.

Chances are she didn't get into grad school at Stanford. That is the one downfall about playing here is that if you redshirt and hope to have a fifth year of eligibility you better be darn smart because grad school is not easy to get into. If you look at a lot of players from all sports at Stanford many choose (have no other option) to seek a transfer so they can fulfill their fifth year, so I'm sure she wanted to stay but just couldn't.

Several parents on rivals have posted about getting that grad degree paid for. That’s brobdingnagian. That’s not a small thing

Agreed; the lure of a free graduate degree is real, especially for someone who isn't going to play professionally. But I just want to push back that getting into a Stanford graduate school is necessary for playing a fifth year at Stanford. Plus, I'm guessing that DiJonai will be able to be drafted into the WNBA.

Just sad and disappointed that we've seen her in a Stanford uniform for the last time. Wish her well - she's quite the warrior and has had so many surgeries it's amazing she still plays. Selfishly hoping she goes outside Pac-12 and not to certain top 5 schools we might encounter.

Do we know for sure she's definitely gone? Some players enter the transfer portal to investigate potential options and also as a failsafe in case they can't return. It's possible she's still waiting to hear about admission to a graduate program, or to see what happens with Wilson, but wants to keep her options open. For example, last spring Mikiah Herbert Harrigan entered the portal and then decided to remain at South Carolina; she was South Carolina's leading scorer this past season.
So until we get an actual word from Carrington herself, I wouldn't necessarily assume with 100% certainty she is leaving just yet...

My WAG is it's related to Wilson's redshirt. And that Wilson retains her scholie; i.e. Russell is not paying for her as we might have hoped.

Nope, she’s gone. If you read the comments from the team... it’s a good-bye. I wonder if VanDerveer had to choose who to invite back and she ended up choosing Wilson... which would be surprising to me since we have Brown and Van Gytenbeek backing up point guard.

If I had to make that choice, one factor would be Carrington injury history. Counting high school, this is at least the third serious knee injury for Carrington. Either way, it was a joy to watch her and I join all in wishing her well
