Life with the pirate might seem fun after a win, but there are a lot of negatives. Losing to a team that had struggled to win any games in conference over the last few years is part of the deal. We didn't see that since Stanford was a good win for Wazzu, but Wazzu had plenty of really bad losses along the way.

One add... twice MSU went for it’s on fourth and two deep in Arkansas territory. On the one hand, down by 7, getting three would still have left MSU more than a field goal behind. On the other hand, had it kicked the field goal both times, they would have gotten the ball back down only 1, and it is a lot easier to play for a winning field goal with less than a minute on the clock than going for the TD.
In the end, MSU was done in by Costello’s three INT’s (one a pick six) and, crucially on a fumble on a punt return with 4+ minutes left. The next time MSU got the ball, they had less than a minute in the game and would have had to drive 85 yards to tie the game.

Definitely did not expect that after last week's big victory.
Reminds me of Stanford in the 80's where we would beat Ohio State one weekend and lose to San Jose State on another.

There goes the Hiseman. One thing this may show is LSU may be fairly bad this year. I think I heard that they had 14 players make the NFL off last years team. Talk about being loaded.

Leach, who is known for throwing his players under the bus after a disappointing loss, did it again somewhat after this one. Said you have to read the field correctly and they weren't talented enough to be able to do that. (At least he didn't mention their fat girlfriends).

Now with 2 losses I will be a big fan of Oklahoma since I believe the Pac-12's champion only gets to play in CFP if another conference champion is a weak brand name program with 1 loss or is a 2 loss conference winner.
I am not really that interested in the CFP, but I believe the Pac-12 is only playing for CFP benefits. So given everyone in the Pac-12 is now adding new risks to their health I want the Pac-12 to be in the show.

KJ made a career at Stanford of throwing to covered receivers. If that receiver is JJAW or Colby Parkinson (or even Caden Smith) you can throw it over good underneath coverage because the receiver can go up and get it (and the DB can't). If the intended receiver is a mortal who is shorter and can't jump as well, you have to throw it lower and then it will get picked. Simple as that. Look at what happend against Utah for an example.
KJ had a streak of like 10 or 11 straight completions. He is accurate enough. He has a great arm. He just needs to learn when his great accuracy/arm won't matter because there are defenders between him and the receiver. Don't throw to guys that are covered, especially when they are covered over and under. Good over coverage will probably produce an incomplete pass as opposed to a pick, but when there is both, you have no chance (unless you have JJ et al). At Stanford, he didn't learn that. So far, Leach hasn't got that into his head either.

KJ is tough. Makes plays. Good leader. But I have never thought he was particularly accurate. Any QB playing for Leach will have a high percentage. I bet 2/3rds of the throws cover 10 yards in the air or less. Lots of long handoffs. KJ was 43-59. 313 yards. 313 on 59 throws is lousy.

He had a reputation as one of the best recruiters and OL coaches in the SEC. While his first game was a 10-37 loss to his former team, a win over Miss St shows that maybe this might be Arkansas climbing out of the depths.

While I would agree that KJ doesn't have "remarkable" accuracy, he usually gets the ball where he wants it to be. His is pretty good about putting the ball in a good position for the receiver to catch it, although he does sometimes throw the ball into the ground trying to make the receiver be the only one who can catch it. My main point was that KJs interceptions aren't balls he threw to the defensive back, or balls that got away from him and were picked. His interceptions are right where he wanted the ball to be. Problem is, there is a defender there. These are mental mistakes, not physical ones. It is not forcing the ball into a tight window because you are a gunslinger and the DB makes a great play. It is a ball with no window that is going to get picked for sure by an "average" DB effort.
The 313 on 59 throws is just fine if KJ doesn't throw three interceptions to go with it. That would have won the game. Arkansas was playing an Akina defense. Make the other team take the short gains and bet they will screw up. Challenge them to make 15 play drives and see if they can do it. Mississippi State lacked a running game that was going to churn out first downs, especially after Kylin Hill went out hurt. Normally Leach has somebody at RB who can hurt you, and right now he doesn't. The Air Raid doesn't run a lot, but if the defense is dropping 8 and playing soft zone you want to take the yards they are giving you on the ground as well as the short passing game. Sometimes you just break one. Most of all, the team just wasn't willing/able to take what the defense gave them and leave it at that. They tried to do too much, as Leach said.

KJ tried to throw to those guys that have DBs all around them. It just isn't going to work. They are going to see soft zone until they show the ability to defeat it.
