Terry Donahue passed away on Sunday at the age of 77:

Here are TD's records at UCLA versus Stanford:
1965-66 (player): 2-0
1971-1975 (OL coach): 3-1-1
1976-1995 (head coach): 12-8
As a head coach, TD won three Rose Bowls in the mid-80s, part of a stretch in which UCLA won 7 bowl games in consecutive years. Despite that notable success, UCLA football teams started to falter in the late 80s and early 90s, and Bruin fans clamored for a coaching change. They got that in 1996 and, generally speaking, the program hasn't come close to matching its success under Donahue.
Although I respect the heck out of Terry Donahue the human being, my least favorite memory of him is the 1987 game at Stanford Stadium.

If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
