What a weird year! We win both the men's and women's Capital One Cups and it's the same year we finally lose our grip on the Directors' Cup. A nice consolation prize, at least, and one that comes with some pretty decent cash.

It's less legitimate because it is less broad based but I LOVE IT when Stanford goes ahead and wins the "Anybody But Stanford Cup"!!!!!!!

Muir's a genius!
I never gave a damned about the stupid cup because it was and still is completely unnecessary, and I am not going to now just because we won.
The fact that we swept the Capitol One cups while not winning the Directors Cup just goes to show how arbitrary the scoring is for all three competitions.

Wow, that's great! It seems counter-intuitive to win Capital One and lose the Directors Cup, but what the heck, we'll take it!

I think the "Anyone but Stanford Cup" mantra that became so ubiquitous among Stanford fans should be re-evaluated.

Well that's some happy news.
But perhaps not as counterintuitive as it might seem. These awards don't cap the number of scores the way the Directors' Cup does. Instead it awards treble points to the revenue sports, to some of the most widely played team sports, and also to lacrosse.
Without the 19-sport cap, Stanford would have won the Directors' Cup too.

The scoring for the Capital One Cup changed slightly this year. Gymnastics and Wrestling became Group B sports (3x points) for men; Gymnastics and Beach Volleyball became Group B sports for women. Go figure. That means men and women each have 7 Group B sports now.
