Incoming freshman Maggie Steffens just led the U.S. team to its first ever gold medal in water polo. She was the youngest player on the team.  In her first game in London she tied the all-time Olympic record for goals and she went on to score the most goals of anyone in the Olympics, including 5 in the final game.  In the semifinal she scored the go-ahead goal in overtime to beat Australia. I read before the Olympics that she had gone 4-4 in a shootout which the U.S. needed to qualify for London.  She is now drawing comparisons to Michael Jordan, which-- if this Olympics was a fair portrayal of her talent-- is probably an insult to Maggie Steffens. Several other Cardinal celebrate this with her, including her older sister who was class of 2010. Magical stuff, really.Â
