Connie Ma was part of Team USA at the Master'U BNP Paribas Championships, an international tournament for current/recent collegiate tennis players (the other women on the coed team were UNC's Fiona Crawley and Cal's Haley Giavara). Ma went 3-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles to help lead the team to a Gold medal! (Crawley had an upset loss at the other singles spot, while Giavara went undefeated in doubles.) Congrats to Connie!
Emily Arbuthnott was part of Team GB again, and they got Silver, so congrats to her as well!
Also, the 2023 spring schedule has been released: https://gostanford.com/sports/womens-tennis/schedule
After a couple of split-squad tournaments (Freeman Memorial in Las Vegas the Torero Tennis Classic in San Diego), we get one warm-up match (UC Davis) before ITA Kick-Off Weekend the end of January, where we get Kansas State and, assuming we win, the Florida State-Arkansas winner. Then we get our first marquee match of the year, at home to Pepperdine, the weekend before National Indoors (if we qualify). Then it's home to St. Mary's before a road trip for our second (and final) marquee non-conference match of the year at Texas, and then the conference season starts. Two other non-conference matches are interspersed, at home to USF and at home to USD. In the conference slate, we get Colorado, Utah, UCLA, USC, and Oregon on the road, and Arizona, ASU, Washington, Wazzu, and Cal at home.
So, a pretty light non-conference schedule, and one with a couple of large gaps in the schedule. One wonders whether there might be another match or two that will be added, but if not, it's another year where our postseason seeding depends in large part on not just qualifying for Indoor Nationals, but getting a couple of wins once we're there, since we don't have a terribly tough schedule otherwise.
