The key difference is Stanford 150 points above UTexas.  Stanford will no doubt lose points off its current total, probably 232 points for the bottom 5 "optional" sports.  Texas does well in fewer sports and may lose no scoring sports.

Stanford again would run away with the Cup if the scoring was biased for [sarcasm]small sports[/sarcasm] programs like UTexas.

So, I would estimate that Texas is 82.5 points ahead of Stanford, after deducting the bottom 5 optional sports.    But then only top 8 or so finishes will score for Stanford in the spring (having to get more than 63 points).  WWP, WGolf, WRow will likely be our 3 top scoring sports, and fill the last 3 optional sport slots.  Baseball is required.  If we have 5 other sports scoring 53 or more points, they are of benefit.  Candidates: SFB, MVB, BVB, WTen, MGolf, WT&F, MT&F.

Back of the envelope calculation:

Balance WWP vs MTen  and WGolf vs W T&F.
Baseball might be a big point differential. I was surprised to see UTexas was not in the top 25..  But, the Directors' Cup may be decided before the CWS,  ... or maybe not.  If its points were known today, it might pull Stanford close to even.

Likely to gain points (over displaced sports) in MVB?, MGolf, WVB.

My feeling is that Stanford would need some really good results to win, but this is too rough to be sure.  Yes, I'm saying there is hope.

Thought I'd share a link to a spreadsheet I put together with the current (page 1) and projected (page 2) Directors' Cup standings. Sports yet to be completed are highlighted in blue, and I used the most recent rankings in each sport to project how far each team will go. 

I decided not to include Ohio State given they are very unlikely to keep pace with Stanford and Texas based on past spring results. Current projections indicate a tight finish, with Texas the favorite to win.

Let me know if I made a mistake anywhere and I hope this helps visualize/keep track of things!

Here's what I have currently.  I apologize in advance for the lack of table formatting. I hope everything is readable after I post.  Stanford has scored in 18 optional sports so far and must, therefore, drop 3.  Those would be men's indoor T&F, wrestling, and women's soccer.  Stanford still has men's golf, softball, men's and women's outdoor T&F, and baseball.  Any further scoring will be incremental since they will result in scores in fencing, women's gymnastics, etc. to be dropped.  Texas has scored in 14 optional sports and will, therefore, add a full score before they have to drop men's cross country, football, etc.  They have men's and women's outdoor T&F and baseball left.  Stanford is up by 73 points right now.  Texas is favored to win women's T&F which would give them 100 points.  Stanford is assured to get at least 73 points in softball and hopefully no less than 69 points in men's golf. That would give Stanford a net of 37.5 points.  That gives Stanford at least a 10.5 point lead with men's and women's T&F and baseball still to go.

Updated June 5. Stanford did get 69 points in men's golf, and softball exceeded expectations by making it to the semifinals. That earns 83 points. So knocking out fencing and women's gymnastics, Stanford's revised total is 1259.5-51-53.5+69+83 = 1307. This puts Stanford ahead by 120.5 with outdoor T&F and baseball left. Still assuming Texas wins the women's T&F, Stanford has a 20.5 point lead. Baseball is one of the 4 sports that must be counted toward the Directors' Cup. Texas upset Miami to win their regional. Stanford needs to win their regional, setting up a Stanford - Texas battle in the super regional. Stanford will need to win that battle. Stanford will have to finished higher than 15th in either T&F for a T&F score to count, and even then, it will be for minimal incremental points.
