Before today, Stanford had allowed just 10 goals in its 24 games, with no more than one goal allowed in any game. I did not expect Stanford to give up 5 goals in the championship game. Oh well.

Stanford starts 7 underclassmen (Jasmine Aikey, who's earned at least 1 point in every NCAA playoff game she's played, is still only 18 years old.)  And we have 3, perhaps 4, top 15 players in next year's class (depending on what Thompson ultimately decides to do).  This was a great run for a very young squad. The future looks bright for the Cardinal. Can't wait to see this team play in the ACC next season!  (Heads up though, we may be short quite a few players in the middle of the season for the U20 world cup - August 31 to September 22).

I am thrilled that a team with so much youth and with such an entering class came in 2nd in the nation this year.  The future is bright.  This is as well as a team can possibly do without winning the natty.  Such an optimistic feel about WSOC, quite different from how I felt after Ole Miss and WBB last spring.  Looking forward to following our WSOC team more closely next year.  That said, watching the final match was not nearly as much fun as nearly every other match ;(

Defender Gisele Thompson is fast, not exactly as fast as her sister, but world class fast (Gisele ran 100 in 11.87 seconds last year; Alyssa has run it in 11.74).
