Rose who…? (Just kidding, of course)
Can you spell “dynasty”…? (Not kidding at all)

Thrilled for the entire team but especially for the seniors Heck and Englemann. What an incredible legacy they leave over their 4 years! 2 national championships, a semifinal appearance, a quarterfinal appearance. And they leave the team in great shape, handing off to Xu and Ganne, neither of whom lost in match play. The future is bright, but the present is even brighter.

Stanford has made the match play round (final 8) in nine consecutive NCAA Championships. In 7 out of the 9, they have at least advanced to the semifinals. 3 national championships, 4 championship match appearances. Already a dynasty.

You have a good point. When Rachel, so classy and understated, including when acknowledging her opponent, gets to her teammates just off the green, she bounces up and down. It seems involuntary and unconscious. Just pure uncontrollable joy, with no artifice. So happy for her.
Many stories of endurance through misfortune, though admirable, do not have happy endings. But some do. That was special.
What a great person to be associated with our beloved university.

The Stanford site shows 8 players on this years team, and three will leave, leaving 5. We get 4 more very highly rated players, leaving us with 9 going into next season. Playing 5 and counting 4 means more than one very good player is going to be sitting out tournaments. Will they stick it out and work even harder like Rachel or move on via the portal. It may prove that one one can have too much of a good thing.(05-22-2024, 06:23 PM)Spiny_Norman Wrote: The future is bright, but the present is even brighter. It's going to be hard to top the emotions of this year's victory. Quote:It’s hard to imagine how it will feel to put my clubs away at the end of the season. How will it feel to stand over my last putt? How will I feel waving back to my teammates one last time? I still look forward to playing amateur events and, hopefully, many more USGA Championships. However, it will be undeniably different. Taking a step away from the game that has given me everything has been a gut-wrenching decision. To say golf has given me the most incredible memories is to minimize the experiences I ask God every day why I deserve.

Here’s a story of a top-10 women’s tennis pro (30yo) retiring before people expected

It further points out that even if you are or could be successful as a pro, that might not be your goal, especially if you consider the impact on your body.
