Elway on Netflix

There are aspects of Elway's career that could have used more detail, but in a single 90 minute program you have to make choices on what to leave out. I think they did a good job of that.

Always wondered what Elway could have done playing for Walsh. Reeves was a good football coach. But he was defense/run game oriented. What’s more, he was also GM. Never drafted a skill position offensive player in the first round. The worst was when he took Tommy Maddox in the first round.
Differences in the offenses are underscored when you see “The Drive”. The tying TD is a 5 yard pass. Elway was in the gun. Dropped back, released it at about the 16. Jackson was about 5 yards in end zone. About a 21 yard throw for a 5 yard gain.
Montana would have taken a 3 step drop and either hit a receiver on a slant or got it to a back in the flat. The difference in the passing game sophistication was enormous.
Not surprising that Elway’s best years were late in his career with Shanahan and some very good skill position players (Davis, Sharpe, Smith).
