He visited Stanford pretty recently and after that visit he said UCLA isn't his leader anymore. Sounds like he comes to stanford if he gets in.

Reports are Allen committed to Oregon.  If true, I'm guessing he didn't get admitted.  Hard to believe someone would choose Oregon over Stanford, especially with Chip gone.  But maybe he wants a more renowned track program?

It might be an admissions issue,  but all along Allen has never really enthused or been more than lukewarm on Stanford.  Definitely was not part of the feel-good wave among recruits during the Big Visit weekend.  Observers noted he seemed distant, even bored during the Stanford basketball game during the recruit weekend.  But,  with a Dawkins team on the floor, who wouldn't?  But his stated interest is in sports busines/ sports promotion as an undergrad.  Typically Stanford pushes an economics major as the logical alternative to an undergraduate business degree.  But that was not really on point with Allen.  Think about how Nike and UO are entertwined.  The best sports-related marketing organization on the planet that might, just might be able to find a spot for Devon Allen in its intern program.  That, and Oregon can use its track reputation with the hurdler.

I think it was a bad fit.  He didn't want what Stanford has to offer.  He probably made the right choice for what he wants.  Hope Jordan Richards flattens his sorry multi-sport ass on a crossing route that will make him need a little sit-down on the bench.

Any recruits turning down Stanford because it doesn't have a sports and/or business degree is making a giant mistake.  There is a reason the best schools do not offer undergraduate business majors.  You go to school to learn how to think.  You learn business from practice and experience, not school.  I have a business degree and the only thing I remember from those two years is that McDonald's only makes money from real estate, french fries and softdrinks.  When you look across the most successful people in business, very few have undergraduate degrees in business.

Economics is not the only option at Stanford for those that want a more explicitly business prep major.  Management science and engineering is another good option.  For those interested in marketing, combining psychology and communications is an option.  Alot of the rent in sports is generated in equipment and apparel, so product design is a great major.

The links to Nike are good enough (Phil Knight is GSB and they do sponsor the athletic dept) that if a standout Stanford athlete wanted an internship at Nike, it would happen.

With Allen, Oregon's woes may have hurt us here.  Be careful for you what you wish for.  Oregon didn't offer him until their recruiting class started looking shaky.

Kevin Gemmell (yesterday: http://tinyurl.com/bbhdfpf) seems to think there's chance Cunningham chooses Stanford while David Lombardi tweeted today that he was pretty sure that was not going to happen. I saw somewhere that he intends to announce on signing day. I haven't seen anything concrete on whether he hasn't gotten in, or is leaning one way or another.

Edit: a free page on Rivals [http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/con...ID=1466495] updated today shows where their "experts" think some of the top remaining recruits will go. For whatever it's worth, 5 of 8 say Stanford, 2 Miami, and 1 Oregon.

I wish there was a way for Stanford to prevent Cunningham from listing Stanford as a finalist.  He's going to have a Stanford hat on the table and make it look like HE decided against Stanford when he picks Vandy, Miami, or FSU on ESPN's signing day coverage, when the reality is he wasn't admitted and Stanford said no to him.  It's weak sauce for him to have Stanford as a finalist when it isn't an option for him. He should replace the Stanford hat for an Alabama one because at least he had an offer from them and he can easily be admitted there.

OutsiderFan, I couldn't agree more.  I'd also like to know if Devon Allen and Durham Smythe got in.  If the insiders somehow found out that Cunningham got in, can they find out about these two as well?  To be honest, I'm especially interested about Smythe, who was supposed to get the news the weekend he was at Notre Dame.  Allen apparently chose Oregon before he found out one way or the other.

I imagine there are not just a few good football players out there who had to get a disappointing call that they did not get into the best university in the nation.  I don't see any reason to chill, in even the smallest way, kids who are on the bubble and who want to come here.  If some strange sense of pride means they keep a hat on the table to keep up appearances, that is fine with me.
