Actually, my post has to do with the frustration of having to wade through hundreds of psychophysiological research papers over the last few years that are padded with mountains of useless pompous verbiage. I'll be more careful about where I release my frustrations in the future.

In many respects, tweeting is just as formal a means of communication as is advertising. It's public. Social media has become a significant marketing tool for many businesses. In the past eight months, we've gone through three people who have washed out as social media producers. Posts with misspelled words and incorrect grammar are image killers in the publications industry. It's unprofessional and makes the company look stupid. To overlook such errors is asinine.

Isn't autocorrect supposed to eliminate typos?

And "boarder" versus "border" and "remodel" versus "role model" are not typo issues because none of those are misspelled (assuming the first of each pair is what Doug typed in in the first place, that is).

I think the point both Kathy and Yvonne are trying to make is that while u can b undrstd w/o gud spelling, if you want to be taken seriously as a professional, you better have good spelling and grammar skills. If I were to send out an email at work in text-speak or, worse, Twitter-speak, I would get nowhere because the vast majority of my communications are going to either government agencies or employees way above me on the hospital's food chain.

Considering that all but two or three of Doug's tweets were sent in a 30-minute window, it's looking like, despite the good intentions, he may have been drunk tweeting. Or maybe he saw or read something that pushed some buttons. It is the off-season after all so I'm sure he has plenty of time on his hands.

Well, not really, they're mostly supposed to predict what you want to say. So if the thing thinks that "broader" is more likely to occur than "border" it will sub it in, often without telling you (though, of course, this depends on exactly what phone and input program you're using). I believe that "remodel" happened because he missed the space and typed "rolemodel", which the phone thought was closest to "remodel".

As for the other stuff, OF COURSE I agree with that, but the language Baldwin was using here was:
1) In the 99.9999th percentile of twitter users, as far as I can tell.
2) Only containing errors because of missed phone autocorrects.

I think that denigrating him for that is just ridiculous. If you want to complain about "lol ppl r 2 dum 4 me" type messages then I'll be with you every time, but this was just so obviously not that. At some point pedantry just makes you look bad.

2. Most educated people can code switch between different levels of language, but the less educated cannot.

I took "remodel" to be a reference to parents expecting a player to help renovate what the parents had not built well in the first place. Of course, the grammar is a bit off for that meaning. So I'm inclined to go with the autocorrect explanation.

I don't think it's auto-correct - I think it's text-to-speech. Creating voice recognition software that can recognize the difference between "boarder" and "border" and "role model" and "remodel" is a very hard problem.
