Here is Sanford\'s bio:

He was an assistant at Stanford under Harbaugh.

A quick Google search indicates that Sanford\'s father was offensive coordinator at Stanford in 2002.

Does anyone know whether Stanford is planning to hire one more coach or two? Is it a TE coach and an OL coach, or is that one job? I watched Shaw\'s last press conference, and I\'m still not clear on this.

I thought that Shaw said that he wasn\'t going to hire a running backs coach until he had an O-line/run game coordinator in place. Â Am I remembering that wrong? Â

I remember it the same way. It seems possible that an OL coach has been hired, but not announced yet. Shaw is holding a press conference on Friday.

Even curiouser, football scoop - who had the scoop on Sanford - is now saying that welre hiring Mike Bloomgren of the New York Jets as the Run Game Coordinator.

Here\'s his wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Bloomgren
The Jets have had an excellent running attack the past few years; if he picked up any of those chops from there, it seems like a solid hire. I suppose we can confirm "young" as an established David Shaw preference.

more evidence - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?titl...on=history - the person who changed the wikipedia entry to say he was at Stanford is the same person who has done almost every other edit for this page.
I think that is what we call a source \'close to Bloomgren\'. Did he make the changes himself? Someone in his family?

Bloomgren may be the running backs coach, but to believe the credibility of the Wikipedia author largely because he\'s the only author is a non sequitur.

Ted Miller is reporting that Blomgren has been hired as offensive line coach and run game coordinator, and Sanford as running backs coach.
http://espn.go.com/blog/pac10/post/_/id/...his-spring
A couple of quotes to note:
So we still need one more coach but apprarently Shaw isn\'t too concerned about him being around for the first round of spring practices.
DeCastro isn\'t leaving right? Beeler, Hall and Philips are the three starters that have to be replaced, right?
And something is wrong with the world. First, Miller is misreporting something. Second, Wilner wrote an informative blog (his post this week about the Pac-10 media negotiations). Somewhere in Miami, Garvin is smiling.

A couple of quotes to note:
Quote:Shaw said the last void on his staff is at tight ends coach. "I\'m not going to rush," he said. "I\'m not just hiring guys for spring ball."
So we still need one more coach but apprarently Shaw isn\'t too concerned about him being around for the first round of spring practices.
Quote:When asked about his primary concerns, Shaw quickly named the offensive line, which must replace three starters, including All-America center Chase Beeler and All-Pac-10 guard David DeCastro.

I understood that the departing OLmen were Beeler, Philips, and Hall, with Martin and DeCastro remaining.
There seems to be a lot of shoddy reporting on Stanford football out there. Â One report I read, I don\'t recall exactly where though maybe Yahoo, said Stanford had to replace 7 starters on defense, though by my count there are only 5 starters leaving: Fua and Bulke on the DL, Keiser and Marecic from the LBs, and Sherman from the DBs. Â Does anyone know of someone I\'m missing?

You\'re correct. Six starters return on defense - Masifilo, Skov, Chase Thomas, Michael Thomas, Howell and Bademosi.
Masifilo and Chase Thomas started all 13 games last season. Howell started 12 games. Skov and Michael Thomas started 11 games. Bademosi started nine games.

in this article it seems that staying at Stanford was a viable alternative.
