I sometimes think that this is the psychological process going on with some of the recruits that court Stanford. A sense that, if they just devote themselves to the university, say the right things, show enough passion, that they can sweep admissions off its feet and everything can work out (even if, inside, they have nagging doubts).

I think the admission standards are so high that almost all recruits have doubts about getting in.
