I don't mean to take the Patriots', or anybody's, side on this, but I have been wondering if there really is such a reason.

Why not simply allow teams to inflate the ball to whatever level they want - and have each team supply the balls for when they are on offense? Wouldn't the game be the most watchable when the QB has the football they way he most likes it?

I suspect there is something I am missing. What is it?
