Long-term benefits of playing the SoCal teams each year outweigh the negatives in my opinion, as long as we stay on top of our game and continue to have a competetive program. Exposure in the Southern California hotbed of talent, and even nationally in years when those programs are top quality; the publicity that comes with beating them (how often were we mentioned during UCLA's bowl game as the team that trounced UCLA at home?); and, not insignificantly, the way in which having them on the schedule, along with Oregon, sets the bar for the program at an extremely high level, and may add a sense of urgency to everything the program does.
Stanford bows to no program!
