Really, I'm surprised, Yvonne.

Monty going to Cal bothered me minimally, for the reasons you said (he left coaching Stanford in good standing for an NBA job, he was not a coach at Stanford when he left to Cal), and he did great things here, and was only so-so at Cal (though certainly better than the guy we got).  Tyrone Willingham's departure bothered me more, because he was a coach (under contract, at least in theory) and left for a lateral move.  But his lack of success and involuntary departure softened the blow.  This was a case where everyone would have been better had he stayed, though you never know; without Buddy and Wlat we never would have gotten Harbaugh and Shaw.
