Scarlett should have a good shot, and perhaps the inside line, on the DE spot opposite Shittu.

In the worst case, he backs up Thomas and Shittu and is in for short yardage and goal line.

He's not an option at nose tackle under any reasonable circumstances.

And if he can stay healthy, he's a godsend.  Against no-huddle teams particularly, we need at least five good defensive linemen. Scarlettt gives us a credible fourth guy, after Shittu, Thomas, and Phillips, with hopes for a fourth coming from Wesley Annan or Luke Kaumatule, or a position switch from the offense, where Greg Taboada, a very good hs DE with a big frame, would be my hope and pick.
