He's not an option at nose tackle under any reasonable circumstances.
And if he can stay healthy, he's a godsend. Against no-huddle teams particularly, we need at least five good defensive linemen. Scarlettt gives us a credible fourth guy, after Shittu, Thomas, and Phillips, with hopes for a fourth coming from Wesley Annan or Luke Kaumatule, or a position switch from the offense, where Greg Taboada, a very good hs DE with a big frame, would be my hope and pick.
In sum, the top 4 DL project to be two true sophomores who need to add a lot of weight and two seniors who need to recover from serious knee injuries. In addition, there are two incoming freshmen who need to get into college shape and a potential switch from TE who would need to fill out his frame. I am so glad that Stanford was able to retain Shannon Turley. I hope he works magic.
