Chris Munk was a surrogate for a broader issue.  Dr. Tom needed a place where admissions wasn't running interference.  When Monty made the Final Four, Davis was profuse in his praise. 'No one appreciates more than me what he accomplished,' or words to that effect.  Davis never went to the Final Four.  He did make the Elite Eight his first year at Iowa immediately after leaving Stanford.  Two additional Sweet 16s.  So Monty did better at Stanford than Davis did at Iowa.
