Christensen was also hamstrung by a reduction in scholarships. After two rose bowl wins there was an uprising by some people in a power who thought that Stanford was turning into a football factory. At a time when the maximum number of scholarships was 125, the maximum at Stanford was lowered to 95. As soon as Walsh was hired it was raised to 105.
