The problem with the term "mediocre" is that most people use it to mean bad, rather than the dictionary meaning of average with a somewhat negative connotation.

I used it in its traditional meaning of average, never intending it to imply bad.  The facts I presented were intended to represent average-ness.  I also called Dawkins an average coach.  But my point was that average isn't good enough, especially after 20 years of being substantially above average.
