Maverick's 61 came within a stroke of trying the Pac 12 record of 60, set by Paul Casey, and ties him Tiger and Cameron Wilson for the lowest Stanford tournament round ever. (Badwhar's incredible 59 at Stanford Golf Course is the record non-tournament round.)Â
Tiger's 61, however, came on par 72 course, in the first round of the conference championships.
This team is worthy watching. I don't recall a team with this many players who improved as much over a season. McNeally, Badwhar, and Boote all have dropped their average scores significantly. In Maverick's case, it's been stunning: two-plus strokes per round, I believe. I'd be interested what, if anything, they have changed in their approach. Mav has been unreal at times.
