It's all what's threatened most immediately.
This season, there were only a couple of strong contenders in the spring to continue the streak - women's water polo and men's golf. And as Hulk has mentioned, golf is a crap shoot at this point. I don't think the tennis programs, though on the upswing, are back to contending just yet, though I hope I'm wrong. And the streak has been left til so late in the season the last two years - it is more immediate, and changes on one game or performance.
That said, I was just as attentive two years ago during women's track and field - remember the incomparable Kori Carter and the entire season coming down to Florida's result in the women's 4x400 relay?
If the Bruins (or the Tar Heels, who I think are also a threat, given their strength in lacrosse) get close, I'm betting people will be watching T+F pretty closely again.
