"If the Bruins (or the Tar Heels, who I think are also a threat, given their strength in lacrosse) get close, I'm betting people will be watching T+F pretty closely again."
Why are the Tar Heels even being allowed to compete? What has happened to the NCAA investigation into the cheating scandal that allowed thousands of North Carolina students, mostly athletes, to dispense with having to worry about performing academically. They had in place a systematic program to enable students to cheat to get through their classes from 1993 to 2010, as far as we know right now.
Am I misreading the scale and magnitude of the scandal? I have read nothing of late to suggest that there are any penalties being considered, much less imposed. The lack of action is astounding and the lack of media probing suggests to me that perhaps I have misunderstood the nature of the allegations. Maybe the whole thing was a big misunderstanding. But an article I read indicated that there was one professor that got fired and another has sued to keep from being fired. No coaches have gotten the boot to my knowledge.
It would be tragic in my view if it worked out that we lost the Director's Cup to North Carolina. On the other hand, perhaps their inclusion will work against UCLA which may not fare as well if North Carolina earns points that might otherwise have gone to the Bruins. That would be equally as tragic. I do not want to win the Director's Cup because a rogue program unfairly denies our competition the points they rightly deserve.
